What it is
- What is Around the Stay?
- A page for your short-term rental with what’s happening nearby this week: events and markets, trail and park notices, what has just opened or closed, and the forecast. Every item links to where it came from, and the page keeps itself current, so you never update it. You can see a live one on the front page.
- Where does the information come from?
- Public sources: the town’s and visitor centre’s event calendars, venues, parks, markets and the local paper. An AI system, Claude, made by Anthropic, searches them and the sites you list, and writes each item with a link to its source. Every item’s dates and source are checked before a guest sees it. An item that can’t be sourced isn’t shown, and a link to a site’s home page or to a site that gathers events from elsewhere is labelled as such.
- How does it stay current?
- It rebuilds itself early every Sunday morning, on your rental’s own clock. Guests always see today and the six days after it, and anything that has passed drops off by itself, so a guest never reads about last Saturday’s market. A link at the foot of the page shows what’s already announced for the months ahead.
- Does it work in my town?
- Anywhere in Canada and the US. “Nearby” means your town and about a 30-minute drive around it. In a smaller town, the best thing you can do is list up to 10 sites where your town posts its events, such as the community hall, the theatre or the farmers’ market. Every build reads them first.
- I already have a guidebook. Does this replace it?
- No, it sits alongside it. A guidebook holds what stays the same, like the Wi-Fi and check-out. This page holds what changes every week. Put its link in Airbnb’s house manual, in Hostfully or Touch Stay, or embed the whole page in your own website.
For your guests
- How do guests get to it?
- However suits your rental: a printed card with a QR code by the Wi-Fi password, a link in your check-in message, a weekly sheet for the fridge, a TV view for a screen in the rental, or an embed in your own site. The link never changes, so a printed card never needs replacing.
- Do guests need an app or an account?
- No. It’s an ordinary web page. Guests need no account, and the page sets no cookies.
- What about closures and emergencies?
- Trail closures and park notices are listed, because they save a guest a wasted trip. An active emergency, such as a search or a fire, is never listed as an item. Official weather warnings are shown word for word from Environment and Climate Change Canada or the US National Weather Service, with who issued them, when they end and a link, and the page says so when they couldn’t be checked.
For you as a host
- How long does it take to set up?
- About two minutes: your email, for a sign-in link with no password, then your rental’s name and town. The first guide is ready in two to four minutes, or at once if another rental in your town already has this week’s.
- Can I change what it shows?
- Yes. Hide anything you’d rather guests didn’t see, and show it again later. Pin your own notes, like the café you’d send a friend to, marked on the page as from you. And list the sites your town posts its events on.
- Will I know whether guests use it?
- Your rental’s page shows how often guests opened it, and whether from the card, the link or your own site. Each Monday you get an email with last week’s opens and what the page lists this week. It counts opens, never who opened it.
- I have several rentals. How does that work?
- Each gets its own page. Rentals in the same town share one search, and some neighbouring towns do too, such as Waco and Hewitt. What you hide and the notes you add stay on your own pages.
- Can it carry my own brand?
- On the Pro plan, your logo replaces Around the Stay’s on your guest pages and printed cards, and the line inviting other hosts comes off.
Cost and privacy
- What does it cost?
- Nothing during early access. Charging is planned for spring 2027, from C$9 a month in Canada or US$7 in the US for your first rental. Every plan is on the plans page. Before anything is ever charged, you’ll hear by email and can choose not to continue.
- Is there a discount for early hosts?
- Yes. The first 50 hosts to choose a plan get 30% off it for as long as they stay subscribed. Hosts in early access now become Founders if they choose a plan within 30 days of charging starting.
- Do I need a credit card to start?
- No. There’s no card to enter during early access, and the free trial after it needs none either.
- What if I stop?
- You can delete your account, with its rentals and pages, at any time from your account page. If a trial ends and you don’t continue, your page stops updating and says so, but stays up, so a card left in a rental never leads a guest to a dead page.
- What does it know about me and my guests?
- About guests, nothing: opens are counted, never who opened the page. About you, your email address and what you enter. A guest page never shows your email or your other rentals, and its address is random, so it can’t be guessed from your rental’s name. The details are in the privacy policy.
