Effective 12 October 2026
Around the Stay is run by Mark Myles, an individual in Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada. This page says what Around the Stay collects, why, and what you can ask for. Questions go to hello@aroundthestay.com.
If you are a guest
You can read a guide without an account, and Around the Stay never asks who you are. Each time a guide is opened, Around the Stay adds one to a count for that rental and that day, noting only whether it was opened from the printed card, a link, or the host’s own website. That count does not record who you are, your IP address, or your device. Link previews made by messaging apps, and the host’s own visits, are left out of it.
The guide sets no cookies. If you switch it to light or dark, your browser remembers that choice on your device, and nothing else. At its foot is a link for hosts to Around the Stay itself; if you follow it, a cookie notes for 30 days that you came from a guest page, and which kind — not which rental. If you then add a rental of your own, your account keeps that note, so Around the Stay can count how many hosts guest pages bring.
If you are a host
Around the Stay keeps:
- your email address, to sign you in, to remind you, at most twice, if a sign-in link you asked for goes unused, to welcome you with next steps when you add your first rental, and to send you a Monday email about your rentals, which you can turn off from the email or your account page;
- what you enter: each rental’s name and town, the sites you list as where your town posts events, the notes you pin, and the items you hide;
- the guides built for your rentals, and how often guests opened them, as described above;
- what you send with Send feedback, with the page you sent it from and your browser’s name, so it can be answered. It is emailed to hello@aroundthestay.com and kept until it has been dealt with;
- on Pro, the logo you upload. It is shown on your guest pages, so anyone with a link to one can see it, and it is deleted when you remove it or delete your account;
- when you email a rental’s card to someone, the time you did — not their address, which is used once, to send it. The email names you and your address, so they know who it is from.
Signing in uses cookies that keep you signed in, one that remembers this browser has signed in before, and a short-lived one that remembers which page to return you to. Your browser also keeps your light or dark choice, whether the sidebar is collapsed, and, if you arrived from a tagged link, where from; those stay on your device. Around the Stay uses no advertising cookies and, today, no analytics service. If that changes, this page will say so first.
How guides are made
Guides are compiled automatically. An AI system — Claude, made by Anthropic — searches the public web for things happening in and around your rental’s town, reads the sites you have listed, and writes each item with a link to where it came from. Around the Stay checks each item’s dates and sources before a guest sees it, but events change and mistakes happen: check the source before you set off.
What Around the Stay sends to build a guide is the town, its province or state, the dates being covered, the sites the hosts in that town listed, and public pages found for that town in earlier builds. Rentals in the same town share one search, and its items appear in each of their guides; one host’s hidden items and pinned notes are never shown on another’s page. It does not send anyone’s email address, or anything about guests.
Who sees what
- A guide is public to anyone with its link. Its address is random, so it cannot be guessed from the rental’s name. It shows the rental’s name and town, the guide, and the host’s pinned notes — never the host’s email address or their other rentals.
- Each host sees their own rentals and their own guests’ open counts.
- Mark Myles can see every rental and its counts, to run and support the service.
- Around the Stay does not sell or rent anyone’s information, and shows no advertising.
Services Around the Stay relies on
These companies process information for Around the Stay, only to provide their part of the service:
- Supabase — the database and sign-in;
- Vercel — hosting the site, including the request logs every website keeps briefly, with IP addresses;
- Anthropic — writing the guides, from the information described above;
- Resend — sending sign-in emails, and the cards hosts send;
- OpenStreetMap — finding a rental’s town on a map, once, from the town’s name, so the guide can show its weather;
- Environment and Climate Change Canada and the US National Weather Service — the forecast, fetched by Around the Stay for the town’s location. A guest’s browser never contacts them.
They may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it can be subject to the laws of that country.
How long it is kept
Your information is kept while you have an account. Deleting a rental removes its guide, notes and counts at once. Around the Stay keeps a record of what each build cost and which town it was for, for its own accounts; it stays after the rental is deleted, without anything linking it to the rental or to you. To delete your account and everything in it, use Your account in the account menu, or email hello@aroundthestay.com. Copies in the providers’ backups and logs expire on their own schedules.
What you can ask for
You can ask what Around the Stay holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by emailing hello@aroundthestay.com. You will get an answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
